LF75 | Day care benefits, primary care innovation, Beijing cemeteries and Tokyo’s dementia café
Welcome to a Looking Forward’s Four For Friday. Four things that have piqued my interest this week. Enjoy!
From home care to day care…?
A quick read (by a provider of day care services) of the benefits of day care - ie bringing older adults to a shared physical hub, rather than sending caregivers out to people’s homes.
It points out the value of socialisation, more efficient caregiver utilisation, lower overall costs and more activity options. On the downside, it’s less suitable for higher acuity patients and requires transport. Clearly an important conversation to be had here.
Primary care innovation doesn’t work
A provocative and well-researched piece identifying the roadblocks to innovation in primary care - with a US focus.
Beijing’s Cemeteries Going Vertical and Digital
Emergence of safe-deposit-box type graveyards and digital mementos to save space in Beijing.
Tokyo’s Dementia cafe
This is a charming story about a Tokyo dementia cafe, that has hired people with dementia as servers. 37% of orders have errors, but 99% of customers are happy.
That’s all for this week. As always, feedback welcome. Feel free to share insights or links of interest.
